Course Outline
Welcome to the Housing and Interior Design class.. Our Course outline is as follows: I. Housing Decisions II. Selection and care of home furnishings, accessories, and equipment III. Safe and Healthy Living Environments IV. Elements and Principles of Design V. Color Theory VI. Space Planning VII. Textiles and Materials in Living Environments VIII. Trends and cycles in housing and furniture IX. Career options related to housing and interior design (Based on the California Home Economics Standards for Instruction) Grading Policies: Course assignments will include: In-class assignments, group projects, individual projects and chapter quizzes. A list of Extra Credit/ Alternate Assignments will be posted in the classroom for students to make-up missed work. In the event that a student is absent due to truancy or becomes a chronic discipline problem the privilege of completing extra credit assignments will be denied. Students missing work due to illness, need to consult the teacher for appropriate assignments. Our classroom is a book-rich environment that will ensure literacy development and reading motivation. Throughout the semester, students will use reading strategies to encourage vocabulary augmentation and comprehension. Students' grades will consist of a point value translated to a percentage score. Grades will be issued according to the following scale: A= 90% and above B= 80-89% C= 70-79% D= 60-69% F= 0-59% To receive an "A" in this course, completed assignments must go beyond what the teacher requested for assignments. The assignments must also exhibit excellent organizational skills, writing skills, creativity and originality (where appropriate). Basic Class Behavioral Policies: -Students are to be seated and prepared to work when the bell rings. -Students will bring paper, pencils or pens to class every day. -Students will show respect to classmates and the teacher. -Students will not bring outside food or drink into the classroom (including gum). 10% of the course grade will be based on behavior and class participation. Textbook Policy A set of our textbooks will be kept in the classroom. Each student will be assigned a book according to textbook numbers. Textbooks will be inspected for vandalism on a regular basis. Students will be held responsible to replace damaged or lost books. Supplies Students will need to bring the following supplies to class to complete design projects: Several sharp pencils, 2 erasers, a ruler, colored pencils or markers. As particular assignments are given, I will discuss the specific materials which will be needed to complete the project. The student will be given the option to purchase supplies in class, or from other sources. An example of this would be paper board to mount design projects. Every attempt will be made to keep costs at a minimum. Students who are concerned about their ability to pay for, or obtain project materials, must discuss their concerns with me.
